Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture terra di volcano 2006

The Brits love this winery. We googled it and found numerous blogs about this winery from all over England. (Let’s keep it our little secret in the States.) Decanter Magazine awarded the Bisceglia Aglianico del Vulture terra di Vulcano 2006 a Bronze Medal and Italy’s Premier Wine Publication, Gambero Rosso awarded it Due Bicchieri (2 glasses out of 3), so the word is out.

 

The wine is unoaked so the fruit is vibrant and juicy. The Terra di Vulcano is made to be drunk now but can be aged for a few years. It has an almost impenetrable black color with purple hints at the rim. Sweet dark cherry and plum aromas burst out of the glass. Swirl your glass a bit to help the wine fully develop. It is medium to full bodied with intense red fruit and hints of violets. It has a bit of earthiness around the edges. Great with food!
