Another sleeper from the 2005 vintage! The Artiques (owners) have hired a team of amazing wine concultants: Hubert de Bouard de Laforest and Bernard Pujol. Hubert de Bouard is one of the owners of Chateau Angelus and Barnard Pujol was the winemaker at Chateau Pape Clement. Chateau Angelus is a 1er Grand Cru Classe wine. It is one of the largest and most prestigious estates in St Emilion. Hubert is a specialist in the making of Merlot driven wines. This wine retails for $11.99. Chateau Angelus retails for $75+ a bottle. This wine has a quite a bit of power for a merlot based Bordeaux. It has some nice tannin and rich dark berry fruit flavors. You can definately taste the oak from the barrel ageing but it is well balanced. It is lovely to drink now but you can certainly put this one away for a few years.
